Alone with the beloved. Ibn Arabí

Listen to me, My love

I am the truth of the universe,

the center of all circles.

I am the beginning and the constituent,

the power initiated between heaven and earth.

I created perception within you so that you may perceive me.

Your perceptions become reality,

only if you can perceive me.

But you cannot perceive me through yourself.

You cannot see me with your own eyes.

Only through my eyes,

can you see me and yourself.

My love,

how many times have I called to you, and you have not heard?

How many times have I revealed myself to you through my signs,

and you have not noticed?

In the fragrance of the flowers,

you did not sense it.

In all the forms of provision on Earth,

in the sweet taste of the food of the earth,

and you did not consciously savor it.

In the coolness of the crystal-clear water

and the morning breeze on your skin,

and you didn’t wake up.

I am absolute beauty.

I am the Merciful One.

Love Me, only Me,

only Me.

Trust in Me.

No one and nothing is closer to you than I am.

Others love you for their own sake,

but I love you for who you are.

When you realize you are drawing closer to Me,

in fact, you are discovering Me within yourself.

I am closer to you than you are to yourself,

closer to you than your breaths,

and deeper within you than your soul.

In what forms of creation

could you find love as real as the Creator’s?

Love,

come to Me for union.

With Me, you can eliminate the paths of separation.

Hand in hand, come to the Truth.

And Truth will be the eternal judge of this Union.

Ibn ArabÍ, Sufi mystic. Murcia, 1165 – Damascus, 1240
