Desert, Franz JALICS

“On your heart’s journey to God, the desert will be indispensable. Enter it, barefoot, open to discovering God’s will for you, in the mystery of the Kingdom…”

CONTEMPLATING IN THE DESERT
Following the Master along the paths of Galilee…

The desert is not just a place to go.

It is an inner space where we learn to listen.

In the silence, our certainties begin to crumble.

In the silence, our resistances emerge.

In the silence, the Father’s gentle voice is also revealed. Jesus did not go to the desert to do things.
He went to be present.
He went to listen.

He went to allow the Spirit to order his heart before beginning his mission.

Contemplation is not escapism.

It is availability.

It is learning to stay.

Not to flee.

Not to fill the void with unnecessary words.

Let us enter.

LISTENING IN THE DESERT

Enter slowly.

The desert is not conquered,
it is received.

Don’t bring speeches,
don’t bring certainties,
don’t bring noise.

Here the wind disarms words
and the sand covers masks.

To listen
is to stay
when everything invites you to flee.

To listen
is to accept your own poverty
without masking it with spirituality.

In the desert
the voice of God
doesn’t shout,
it whispers.

Speak where it hurts.
Speak where you fear.
Speak where you are not yet willing to surrender.
